Caving Amberg circular route

An exciting cave tour for families with children, groups or class trips. Enter the darkness under Amberg equipped with a head torch on a journey of discovery for young and old.

Our caving tour follows a circular route through the dark tunnels under the Amberg. The tunnels were cut out through the heart of the mountain during the second world war to become a large hydroelectric project. This project was never finished but the tunnels that remain provide us with an interesting underground adventure down through the centre of the Amberg mountain near Haiming. After walking and climbing through the horizontal tunnels from one side of the mountain to the other we take in a stunning viewpoint over the Inn valley. After our break in the daylight we travel back through the mountain on a partially different route. Throughout the tour we discover old artefacts, shallow pools and learn a little of the story behind the construction of the tunnel system.

Caving Amberg with 350m pressure shaft

A different and impressive experience under the Amberg mountain next to Haiming. The highlight being a journey down the 350m long “pressure shaft”, securing yourself on a rope as you go.

After walking and climbing through the horizontal tunnels from one side of the mountain to the other we take in a stunning viewpoint over the Inn valley. After a short break in the light its back into the tunnel system and down the 45% drop 350 m long “pressure tunnel” we go. After this challenging part of the tour we emerge slowly into the light at the end of the tunnel…
